DEL 2
c1582-1834
Mainly cause papers not filed in other High Court of Delegates series, but also a substantial number of records of the High Court of Admiralty, mainly from the mid seventeenth century, which may have been exhibited before the court. Miscellaneous material includes a few churchwarden's accounts and rate assessments.
The cause papers (sometimes printed) may include allegations of promoters, personal answers of defendants, depositions of witnesses taken by commission in the country, sentences, bills of costs, and exhibits including the texts of such documents as agreements, contracts and freight lists in maritime causes, disputed wills in testamentary causes, personal letters in matrimonial causes, and title deeds and vestry minutes in causes relating to ecclesiastical property.
This series also contains records originating from the High Court of Admiralty (HCA).
The current arrangement of this series resulted from the rearrangement of the records in 1974.
Cause papers are listed in strict alphabetical order by appellant, except that the printed papers are normally at the end of each letter of the alphabet.
Parallel material is in HCA 42
