Administrative / biographical background

Because of heavy commitments elsewhere, notably in Malaya, the RAF's participation in Korea was on a relatively small scale. Three Sunderland squadrons performed maritime patrol operations throughout the three years of war, but this was the extent of operational involvement by whole RAF units. In the early stages of the war the RAF provided advice on tactics, especially night intruder tactics, and a number of RAF officers were attached to the 5th United States Tactical Air Force. Later, some RAF pilots were attached to USAF units and Royal Australian Air Force Meteor squadrons.
