The photocopies of the records of the Air Defence (AD file series) and Staff (S file series) sub-committees were originally transferred to form two bound volumes, representing the condition of the original records, as DEFE 8/53-54.

Because the copies were originally bound up incorrectly, the later part of the AD file series being bound with the S file series, the opportunity has been taken in rebinding to split the volumes up, in order to permit public access to the annual sections of the records, as they become thirty years old. DEFE 8/53 and the part of DEFE 8/54 containing AD records now form DEFE 8/55-62 and the remainder of the original DEFE 8/54 now forms DEFE 8/63
