The series includes details of the allocation of grants or loans. These might be to individuals or groups, for the promotion of tourism, or for the construction of a new factory. A list of conditions is detailed with each grant. There are also letters from various scientific bodies requesting financial aid to support research. The volumes are indexed.
Until 1971 the development commissioners reported to the Treasury for approval of schemes. After that date the commissioners reported to the Department of the Environment.
