Description
John Agogue, clerk, bailiff of the Duke of Brittany in le Perche to [The Prior and Brethren of the Domus Dei (Hotel-Dieu) of Nogent-le-Rotrou]: certificate that the grantor has inspected the following documents: (Wilts). (1) A grant by Richard formerly Bishop of Salisbury to the grantees of the churches of Aldbourne (Audiburne) and Wanborough (Ganberga). The grant is dated in the 11th year of Richard [the Poor] 1228. The grant mentions the charters of Hubert and Herbert, late Bishops of Salisbury, of the Count of le Perche and Count G[eoffrey] his son; fixes the endowment of the Vicars; mentions 7 virgates (furgates) by Westwood; the Vicar of Wanborough is to have all the tithe of Stephen de Erdescote ('now Eastcot' Aubrey, Wilts.] and his men, and all the tithe of 'Sewalle militis' (Servale d'Oseville, Aubry, 195), except the tithe of the land which Hugh de Tabar knight, deceased, gave them in alms; the grant also provides for the service of the churches.
