Description

These are records of the Board of Excise and, from early 1849, of the Board of Inland Revenue. They concern appointments, etc. to the force which was reorganised in 1830 and subsequently strengthened in order to combat the illicit making of malt and distillation of spirit in Ireland in contravention of the Irish (Illicit distillation (Ireland)) Act 1831.
