Subject: Deer-stealing in the forest of Exmoor, and forcible entry and damage to sheep in the lordships of East Studley, West Studley and Cove, of plaintiff Sir John Carew. [The poachers, in bands of 20-30, pursued deer through four parishes, destroying corn, grass, hay, hedges and gates, as well as destroying sheep and throwing them in a river; Bowden claimed they hunted on the authorisation of Sir Hugh Pollard, officer of the forest].
