Short title: Batten v Bainton.
Plaintiffs: Richard Batten gent, deputy-warden of the forest of Pewsham alias Chippenham.
Defendants: Sir Henry Bainton kt, JP, deputy justice of the forest of Pewsham, Thomas Lanfere, Humphrey Townsend, and others his servants, Henry Bainton gent, Gabriel Coldney, Richard Tilly, and others.
Subject: Deer-stealing in the forest of Pewsham, embezzlement of timber, removal of boundaries, enclosure of a park, etc.
Wiltshire.
Note: Enclosures, etc, in the forest are traced from the time of Richard I.
Barnes category: officer's misfeasance; destruction of property; hunting; unlawful assembly.
Another action was also brought before the Court of Star Chamber: cross suit or shoring action
