Incorporation of Romford and Hornchurch into the Metropolitan Police District as a consequence of the London Government Act 1963
On 1 April 1965 the boundaries of the Metropolitan Police District were revised to coincide with the boundaries of the Greater London Boroughs of the Greater London Council. One of the changes necessitated extending the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police to include an area of Essex previously policed by the Essex Constabulary. The seven police stations within this area were taken over by the Metropolitan Police from the Essex Constabulary. One of these stations, Plough Corner, was subsequently closed on 16 December 1968 but used as a police office until 1 March 1970
