CSC 11
1836-1976
Application papers submitted to the Civil Service Commission of people who were notable, either at the time of application or subsequently.
The files contain personal details relating to birth, parentage, education, references and, in some cases, previous employment. The files also contain testimonials, in many cases from the school last attended by the applicant, and the results of the Civil Service Entrance Examination, including in some cases, the actual examination papers. Not all the applications resulted in the candidate taking up employment in the Civil Service.
The files are arranged in alphabetical order by surname within each block of records as they were transferred from the department to the Public Record Office.
Tables of marks and results in Civil Service examinations are in CSC 10
