CRES 16
1851-1913
Entry books of out-letters, 1851 to 1901, and Treasury report books, 1886 to 1913, of the Office of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues, relating to Windsor. The letter books (CRES 16/1-15) include copies of out letters and reports for the Treasury with a number of plans. The texts of the related Treasury letters, minutes and warrants are included. From January 1886 this material is divided into two separate series: entry books of out letters (CRES 16/16-29), originally numbered 1-14 on the spine, and Treasury report books (CRES 16/30-35), which contain similar reports to the Treasury and related Treasury correspondence as may be found in the books prior to 1886, but with fewer plans enclosed.
The out letters and reports are on a wide range of subjects including requests for authority for the purchase or lease of land, repairs, the erection of fences, the maintenance of roads, telephone wayleaves, drainage works, enlargement of schools and churches, fire insurance, approval of estimates for Windsor parks and woods, salaries, pensions and compassionate allowances, etc. The property referred to is at Windsor and other localities near there (eg Ascot, Datchet, Egham, Eton, Frimley and Virginia Water).
All books are indexed by subject, place and name, though the cross-referencing of the index entries within each volume is not always consistent.
