CRES 10
1860-1913
This series contains two series of records, entry books of out letters (1860 to 1900) and Treasury report books (1860 to 1913), relating to the administration of Crown foreshores (including the seabed and the tidal parts of navigable rivers) by the Office of Woods, Forests and Land Revenues, and such responsibilities from 1 January 1867 which were not from that date transferred to the Board of Trade under stat. 29 and 30 Vict, c62. Those responsibilities which remained after 1866 mainly concerned foreshores fronting Crown property, coal or other mineral deposits under the foreshore, and the foreshores of the rivers Thames and Tees and in the County Palatine of Durham. All the volumes are indexed.
The Treasury reports are on a wide range of subjects, and often enclose a plan. Subjects covered include requests for authority to accept the surrender of leases, the sale or conveyance of foreshore, applications for the grant of undersea mines, enquiries concerning the boring for rock salt, the construction of roads and railways and Channel Tunnel proposals, and requests to assist the dependents of victims of undersea mining disasters. The texts of the related Treasury correspondence, minutes and warrants are included in the report books.
