Description

Short Title: Vaughan v Price. [Cause code: SCEL-08610].

Plaintiffs: John Owen Vaughan, esq.

Defendants: Harris Price, Hugh ap Griffith.

County: Montgomeryshire, Wales.

Subject: Assaults and affrays in the town of Llanfyllin; attempted conviction of John Owen Vaughan's brother for murder by corrupting the coroner, the Grand Jury of the Assizes and the witnesses; using justices of the peace of Denbighshire, Wales to punish John Owen Vaughan's men; burning the house of a poor follower of John Owen Vaughan, accusing the poor man of arson, and securing his indictment and execution upon perjured evidence and the ungodly advice of Edward Price; suborning witnesses called before a commission granted out of this court in an action between Richard Herbert, esq, brother-in-law of Edward Price, and Howell Vaughan, brother of John Owen Vaughan; assaults during musters and the trial of lawsuits at Poole; corrupt concealment and setting at liberty by Edward Price as justice of the peace; affray at Llanerfyl church and perjury and subornation before a commission granted out of this court upon that affair; maintenance of perjurers and felons by Edward Price; assault upon John Owen Vaughan by Edward Price upon their coming out of the church of Llanfyllin. [This case is a detailed account of final procedure in a long, drawn out quarrel between the Vaughans of Llwydiarth, and Edward Price, supported by the Herberts.].
