Description

Rolls recording the admission of attorneys and solicitors to practise in the Court of Common Pleas under acts of 1838 and 1843. The rolls are in chronological order, and each entry gives the date of signing, the name of the court to which the signatory was originally admitted, and his place of residence.

Administrative / biographical background

The Common Law Procedure Act of 1838 and the Solicitors Act of 1843 permitted attorneys and solicitors already practising in other courts, including those of the Duchy of Lancaster, Palatinate of Lancaster and Palatinate of Durham, to enrol in the courts at Westminster.
