The East Midlands Division of the National Coal Board was formed in 1947 and, although internally reorganised at various times, retained the title until the new area organisation was set up by the board in 1967. It was divided into a number of areas, whose headquarters were as follows: Bolsover (Area 1); Edwinstowe (Area 3); Huthwaite (Area 4); Eastwood (Area 5); Bestwood (Area 6) and Coleorton (Area 7).
