The registers in COAL 39/1-45 are arranged under National Coal Board divisions, each of which is divided into several areas. The owners are then listed in alphabetical order by area.
The registers cite the 25" Ordnance Survey map sheet number (Roman) and an individual code number (Arabic) for each of the former owners' property.
Dates for COAL 39/47-110 have been estimated.
The information in COAL 39/47-128 and 133-143 largely duplicates the information in COAL 39/1-45. However, COAL 39/67-73, 77-78, 80-87, 91-93, 97-99, 104-110 (West Midlands Division) and 134 (South Eastern Division) contain plans not in COAL 39/1-45.
