COAL 10
1957-1967
This series consists of maps and diagrams produced by the National Coal Board Scientific Department Coal Survey.
They consist of outline maps (where necessary); an introduction; general maps and diagrams relating to such features as the geography, geology and seam sequence of the coalfield; information relating to individual seams, including maps and diagrams of depth, structure and thickness, maps of properties relating to rank, of impurities and of areas of working; information relating to measures between seams (where appropriate); and several appendixes.
The purpose of the maps and diagrams is to present a general picture of the variation in structure and properties of all important seams in a coalfield, based on records of seam structure, thickness, quality and rank held by the Coal Survey, supplemented by information obtained from other units of the Board and outside sources, including information from the Geological Survey of Great Britain.
In addition to the maps there are two publications concerning coal seams and one folio produced by the Scientific Department Coal Survey, entitled "The Coalfields of Great Britain, Variation in Rank of Coal".
