Scotland; Appointments to Office.
A memorial from the chamber of commerce of Greenock and a memorial from the provost, magistrates and town council of Greenock for the appointment of a stipendiary magistrate or additional sheriff substitute for the lower ward of Renfrewshire.
A letter from Andrew Rutherford, Lord Advocate, reporting that Hercules Robertson, Sheriff of Renfrew, stating that W Marshall, Sheriff Substitute at Greenock, undertakes the civil and criminal business of the lower ward as magistrate, and that he can take full share in the police business and small debt court, so an additional appointment is unnecessary. A draft response to the chairman of the Greenock Chamber of Commerce is attached.
