Four letters concerning postal communication in Scotland.
A letter from Charles R Baird, Secretary to the Glasgow Committee of the Highland Relief Fund, transmitting copies of letters from Duncan McNee, Procurator Fiscal at Lochmaddy, to the inspector of the Northern District and Malcolm MacLeod to the inspector of the Southern District, stating that communication between the mainland and the islands of Lochmaddy and Dunvegan has been stopped.
A letter from Andrew Rutherford, Lord Advocate, regarding the inconvenience caused by the stoppage of postal communication between the islands of the north and south districts, due to the reduced rate of postage.
A second letter from Rutherford reporting that the proprietors of the north and south districts and the Isle of Harris decline to continue making payments towards the expense of the packet service between Dunvegan and Lochmaddy, and it is impossible for the post office to pay that fee.
A letter from J Parker, at the Treasury Chambers, stating that the commissioners have ordered postal communication to be restored.
