Prisons and Prisoners; Petitions: Several petitons from John Peter Thomspn Burgess, Assistant Apothecary serving under the Madras Government and attached to various British army regiments, who was tried at Kamptree, East Indies, in October 1840, by a European General Court Martial, for the murder of John O'Brien, and sentenced to death, commuted to transportation for life. Writing from Moulmein Gaol, the papers include supporting papers, covering letters, a statement of services, and character witness statements.
