Part 1: folios 1- 357: January to July 1843.

Collection of letters and reports with handbills/posters and newspapers. The letters are mainly from (or refer to) Carmarthenshire, Glamorganshire, Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire, Montgomeryshire, reporting on disturbances there (they refer to 'Rebecca', the corn laws and the Chartists). They include copies of written threats (some in Welsh and translated into English) including one signed 'Rebecka Dogood'. Military forces were sent to assist the magistrates. There are a number of letters from the Admiralty, Horse Guards, Ordnance and the Home Office.

Also included are:

A series of examinations/depositions concerning a disturbance in June 1843 in Carmarthenshire.

A copy of the 'Carmarthen Journal and Weekly Advertiser for the Principality' newspaper.

There are also various posters/handbills and printed matter:

'To Rebecca and Her Daughters', from Edward CR Lloyd Hall (another copy in Welsh).

'Welshmen' concerning the setting up of a committee set up by the Trustees of the Carmarthen and Newcastle-Emlyn Turnpike Trust, signed Edward CR Lloyd Hall.

'Gyd-Wladwyr a Chyd-Gristionogion' (in Welsh).

'To the Inhabitants of the County of Cardigan', on disturbances in the county.

'.... a Meeting of the Magistrates' on disturbances, signed W E Powell.

On the committee set up by the Trustees of the Carmarthen and Newcastle Trust, signed R Goring Thomas.

On the committee set up by the Trustees of the Carmarthen and Newcastle Trust, signed Caleb Lewis.

Reward poster (in English and Welsh) for information on those who threw down and destroyed the toll bar and toll house at Bolgoed in Llandilo-Talybont in Glamorgan.

'To the Person Calling Himself Rebecca...' signed Ed Lloyd Williams.

Copy of a notice to submit to being sworn as a special constable.

'Adpar, Henhafod and Kerry Gates, notice as the reduction of tolls to be paid (in English and Welsh).

[Unidentified] newspaper account of Rebecca.

Part 2: folios 358-712: August to September 1843.

Collection of letters and reports with handbills/posters. The letters and are mainly from (or refer to) Carmarthenshire, Glamorganshire, Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire, Montgomeryshire (there are some from Edinburgh and from Dumfries House, Cumnock, [Ayrshire), and which concern toll roads/gates and charges, reporting on disturbances there (the refer to the 'Rebecca Outrages'. They include information on the presence of military forces, copies of written threats (some in Welsh - some translated into English), examinations or depositions, accounts of a proposed demonstration by 'Copper Men', copies of letters from Whitehall, Horse Guards, Admiralty, The Poor Law Commission (recounting various Welsh union's views on the billeting of troops in workhouses; includes accounts for work done to accommodate troops at Aberystwyth).

Part 3: folios 713-961-712: September to December 1843.

Collection of letters and reports with handbills/posters. The letters are mainly from (or refer to) Carmarthenshire, Glamorganshire, Radnorshire, Pembrokeshire, Cardiganshire, Montgomeryshire, Breconshire. There are some letters from Dumfries House, Cumnock, [Ayrshire). There are lists of the petty sessional divisions of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, reports on toll roads/gates and charges, reporting on disturbances. There are letters (or copies of letters) from the War Office, The Poor Law Commission - on the accommodation of troops), Horse Guards, Treasury Chambers, Ordnance,

'Notice - A Public Meeting Will Take Place at Llechryd...' to vote a loyal address to the queen and hear grievances (four copies two in Welsh, two in English).

'Meeting at Llangammarch. The Landowners and Farmers...' to express their abhorrence at the recent outrages.

Breconshire reward poster: for the breaking of the turnpike gate at Llangammarch.

Montgomery reward poster: for the breaking of the turnpike gate at Llangurig.

Notice for the establishing of a rural police force for Cardiganshire. Signed Beynon, Clerk to the Peace.
