Monthly expenditure of Bureau of Occupation at Canton for thirteen months from Jan 1858 to Jan 1859 inclusive: $28,687.32 for office expenses and $33,116.64 for patrolling the streets, making a total of $61,803.96. In addition, expenses involved in repairing yamen of Bureau of Occupation and repairing city gates garrisoned by soldiers amount to $10,637.60.
