Bruce to Ho Kuei-ch'ing. Declines to discuss with Ho question of exchange of treaties because Ho is in charge of trade in five treaty ports only, but does wish Ho in his capacity as Viceroy of Liang-Chiang to settle the problems raised by the disturbancein Shanghai [on 29 Jul 1859] in which one Briton was killed and several others seriously injured.
