Description

Chao Te-ch'e to Bowring. Bowring's intention not to allow hostilities in Canton to affect other four treaty ports and to achieve settlement of differences is evidence of his desire for eternal peace. Has received no memo from Yeh Ming-ch'en about his management of affairs in Canton and is therefore not in a position to write to Emperor. Wishes to see speedy return to peace.
