Bonham to Yeh Ming-ch'en. Tseng A-chang was wanted for questioning for having repeatedly offered refuge to deserters from British ships. His wife, A-ts'ai, was detained overnight in Vice-Consul's ship when she refused to reveal his whereabouts. She was subsequently drowned when she fell into river while attempting to escape. Then Tseng A-chang tried to avenge her death by attempting to set fire to Vice-Consul's ship. Will take unilateral action if Chinese authorities still refuse to act.
