Description

Bonham to Hsü Kuang-chin. According to treaty Chinese government must accept $200 fine paid by British steamer. Blames Hoppo for declining to hold meeting with Consul J. Bowring to discuss preventive measures against smuggling and evasion of taxes. Should Chinese customs officials connive with merchants of other nations to evade taxes, will take measures to protect British merchants.
