Ch'i-ying et al. to Pottinger. Are delighted that British officer at Chen-chiang did not put up notice ordering Chinese escort to sea and removal of entire population from the city. Will investigate possibility of Chinese outlaws being responsible for this notice. Will also investigate disappearance of British and Indian soldiers.
