Captain Ho's [Hope's] Proclamation at Wu-sung: (1) misdemeanours of British sailors should be reported to him; (2) local people should bring poultry, meat, eggs, milk and vegetables to British man-of-war for sale; should attempts be made to stop such supplies, sailors will help themselves; (3) should British sailors be assaulted or abducted while on shore, villages nearby will be burnt down.
