This series contains authenticated copies of proclamations made by the High Commissioner in and for South Africa. The proclamations, which had the force of law and are equivalent to the Acts and Ordinances enacted for colonial territories with legislatures, primarily cover the 'High Commission Territories' of Basutoland, the Bechuanaland Protectorate and Swaziland, either separately or collectively. The series also includes proclamations issued for Barotseland and Southern Rhodesia.
The majority of the proclamations are typescript, or carbon copies of typescripts, sealed and signed by the High Commissioner and the Imperial Secretary. Some others are printed
