SHIP AND SHIP CASES (For notes regarding ship cases under Foreign Enlistment see FOREIGN): Convention with France regarding disputes between French and English seamen: did it empower magistrates to interfere between British seamen; magistrates thought that it did not whereas Board of Trade thought that it did (1866).
MAGISTRATES: Magistrate's interpretation of conventions with France differed from that of Board of Trade. Secretary of state no power to interfere (1866).
