Administrative / biographical background

The Establishment Department (from 1946 division) was set up in 1865 to deal with staffing and pay, the reorganisation of the board's other departments and all other establishment matters. It was also responsible for common services provided for other government departments. The board's library and the staff producing the Board of Trade Journal (until their transfer to the Information Division) were attached to the Establishment Department. The official translator to the Board of Trade was responsible to the librarian.
