Administrative / biographical background

In 1900 territory formally under the jurisdiction of the Royal Niger Company was united with the Niger Coast Protectorate to form the Protectorate of Southern Nigeria. In 1914 Southern and Northern Nigeria were united to form the British colony of Nigeria.
