1 item (enclosure in despatch of 19 April 1839 from J Nias, Captain HMS Herald, to Admiral Sir F S Maitland, East Indies) extracted from ADM 125/131 'South Cocos Islands in Possession of M r Ross': chart showing Horsburgh, Direction, Hare, West and Turtle islands, and several unnamed smaller islands; latitudes and longitudes; soundings, high water, coral reefs, passages through reefs, anchorage, wreck, proposed beacons and buoys; settlement and watering place. Scale: 9.1 inches to 7 [recte 6] miles. Compass indicator; magnetic variation [1839]. Drawn by P C D Bean, Master HMS Herald.
