The senders and recipients of the correspondence and telegrams were: Garstin [Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Allen], Gatacre [Major General Sir William Forbes], Girouard [Sir Edouard Percy Cranwill], Heron [Lieutenant Colonel Thomas], Heygate [Major Robert Henry Gage], Kitchener ['Sirdar' General Horatio Herbert], Rawlinson [Captain Sir Henry Seymour], Sandbach [Captain Arthur Edmund], Snow [Major Thomas D'Oyly], Swabey [Captain Wilfred Spedding].
The majority of the telegrams relate to the sick and wounded. The deaths of Private W Jones (1st Battalion Warwickshire Regiment), Private B Ellis (Seaforth Highlanders), Lance Corporal J Brennar and Privates W Gamwell, J Kelly and W Warrener (1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment) were reported.
