Description

The telegrams were sent to or from the following places: Abadia, Alexandria, Assuan, Atbara, Bashtinab, Berber, Cairo, Dakhila, Darmali, Genenetti [Genetti], Halfa, London.

The senders and recipients of the telegrams were: Adamson, [Surgeon-Major Henry Mackenzie], Baillie, Eila [wife of Captain Alan C Duncan Baillie], Bainbridge [Captain Edmond Guy Tulloch], Gatacre [Major General Sir William Forbes], Hobbs [Captain Frederick Manoli Baltazzi], Kabood, Kitchener ['Sirdar' General Horatio Herbert], Napier, Mrs. [wife of Major Robert F I Napier], Robinson [Surgeon-Major George Winsor], Sandbach [Captain Arthur Edmund], Seccombe [Captain Archibald Kennedy], Watson [Captain James Kiero], Wingate [Colonel Francis Reginald].

The majority of the telegrams relate to casualties - sick, wounded and killed, many following the Battle of Atbara. The deaths of Sergeants A Stafford and George Gage (1st Battalion Warwickshire Regiment), Private G Stephens (Seaforth Highlanders), Corporal D McLeod and Privates W Cooper and B Kearton (Cameron Highlanders), Lance Corporal Sherlock and Privates Burnham, G Ellis and George Dale (1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment), and Private T Moppett (Army Service Corps) were reported.
