Description

2 items (originally accompanying a letter from Colonel Vavasour to the Inspector General of Fortifications, 12 November 1849) extracted from WO 44/47. Canada West (now Ontario): Bytown (now Ottawa). Two sketch maps: (1) 'Sketch shewing ruins of quarter ... built by the late Colonel By RE ...'; (2) 'Sketch of ground... proposed to give up to the executors of the late Colonel By RE'. Reference table to each item. Scale: (1) 1 inch to 2 chains [1:1,584]; (2) 1 inch to 4 chains [1:3,168]. Compass indicator to item (2). Item (1) signed by Captain Charles E Ford, Royal Engineers. Both items signed by Lieutenant J Bury, Royal Engineers, and by Colonel H Vavasour, Commanding Royal Engineers. Dimensions: (1) 27.5 cm x 43 cm; (2) 45.5 cm x 55 cm.
