2 items extracted from WO 44/192. County Durham and Northumberland. (1) 'Plan of the Coast between Sunderland and Tynemouth'. Shows roads, place names, Jarrow Lake, fortifications. Scale: 4 inches to 2 miles [1:31,680]. Compass indicator. Signed by William Lewis, Clerk of Works; and by James R Arnold, Lieutenant Colonel, Commanding Royal Engineer, 8 January 1828. (2) 'Sunderland. M c Karras Battery for Six Guns': plan and section. Uncalibrated scale bar. (Sgnd) James R Arnold, Lieutenant Colonel, Commanding Royal Engineer, 17 December 1827. Copied by S B Howlett, Inspector General's Office, 22 December 1827. The date beneath Arnold's signature has been altered to 8 January 1828. Dimensions of sheets: (1) 52 cm x 41 cm; (2) 28 cm x 44 cm.
