2 items (enclosures in despatch of 17 September 1805 from Robert Francis to Lord Castlereagh) extracted from WO 1/185. Francis' despatch describes the use of 'carcasses' (incendiary devices worked by clockwork) which, besides being cheap, are stated by Francis to be 'as destructive as a fireship and more dangerous because, being under water, they cannot be seen, stoped or prevented'. Detailed descriptions of the extracts are given at item level.
