Papers and drawings relating to the Plymouth defences at Eastern King. the originals of the drawings were made to accompany Colonel Oldfield's letter of 11 September 1847 to the Inspector General of Fortifications. (1) Minute by Thomas H Rimmington, Capt RE, 29 December 1848, to accompany Colonel Oldfield's letter of 5 January 1849 to the Inspector General of Fortifications: it explains that the overlays on accompanying drawings nos 2, 3, 4 and 5 show alterations in accordance with the Master General and Board's order dated 19 December 1848. (2) Memoranda expressing the Inspector General of Fortifications' concurrence, 12 January 1849. (3) No 1: 'Sketch of Plymouth Sound - shewing the relative positions of the New Work proposed for Eastern King and the Coast Defences already in progress or existence'. Plan also showing positions and ranges of sea batteries. Scale: 4 inches to 5,000 feet. Drawn by Lt Crease, RE 11 September 1847. Inscribed: '7 plans approved by the Board of Ordnance 27 th September 1847... SBH 11th November 1847.' (4) No 2: plan and section of proposed defences at Eastern King. Scale: 1 inch to 50 feet.
