Greece: Corfu. Russian plan of the island, showing terrain, rivers, roads, villages, fortifications, salt works. Pencilled gridlines are still visible. Scale: 6.25 cm to 10 versts; scale bar also in Italian miles; a note in French explains the computation of the scale. Compass star. Oriented to the east. Endorsed: 'N° 2. A20 Small plan of Corfu - Greek'. Part of the War Office linen cover for the map is affixed to the dorse and bears the note: 'Corfu - Map of Island. 1737 X64/21'. '1737' appears to have been taken from the French calculation and erroneously applied as a date. The map itself is undated, but appears to be of the late 18th century.
