Description

(1) 'Sketch of the Peninsula of Castine in the Bay of Penobscot and District of Maine In New England': map illustrating the landing of British troops in the United States of America on 1 September 1814. Reference table to defence works, buildings, landing place of troops. Scale: 1 inch to 500 feet. Compass indicator. Drawn by R H Bonnycastle, 2nd Capt RE. Signed by G Nicolls, Lt Col RE, to accompany letter of 10 September 1814 to General Mann. (2) Copy of (1). Dimensions of sheets: (1) 54.5 cm x 78 cm; (2) 58.5 cm x 87 cm.
