Description

1 item extracted from CO 42/801. 'Pacific Ocean': map of the area between 103°E and 73°W, and between 72°N and 62°S. Compass indicators. Mercator's projection. Engraved by Edward Weller; published at the Admiralty, 20 May 1887 under the superintendence of Captain W J L Wharton, Royal Navy, Fellow of the Royal Society, Hydrographer. MS additions, coloured, showing French-controlled and British-controlled islands, islands proposed to be annexed by Great Britain, and the routes of [existing and proposed telegraph] cables; MS reference table; MS note on distortion due to the projection.
