2 items (originally accompanying a letter to the Secretary of the Board of Ordnance, 20 August 1851) extracted from WO 55/2988. Newfoundland (now in Canada): Saint John's. Two maps of land and buildings owned and occupied by the Ordnance: (1) showing Fort William, Fort Townshend and Fort Amherst, Government House, Signal Hill, the lime kiln, Queen's Wharf, the garrison hospital, and Chain Rock, Waldegrave and Quiddy Viddy batteries; (2) showing the whole town and its immediate environs. Scale: (1) 1 inch to 100 feet [1:120]; (2) 1 inch to 400 feet [1:4,800]. Compass indicator to both items. Item (2) drawn by Lieutenant M S Whitmore, Royal Engineers; both items signed by Lieutenant J G Jervois, Royal Engineers. Dimensions: (1) 74.5 cm x 101.5 cm; (2) 73 x 129 cm.
