2 items (originally enclosed in Sir G Grey's despatch to H Labouchere, 17 January 1857) extracted from CO 48/380 (folios 50-51). 2 sketch maps (of territory now in KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa). (1) 'Sketch Plan of the South Eastern Part of the Zulu Country': map of an area about 50 miles north-east of the Tugela River, showing rivers, high land, the nature of the terrain, and sites of chiefs' kraals. Reference table to kraals. Scale: 1 inch to about 8 miles. (2) 'Map in illustration of the N. En. Boundary of Natal': showing rivers, place names, the route of the Natal Boundary Commission, named separate areas, and allotments. 4 compass indicators. Dimensions: (1) 62 cm x 72 cm; (2) 144 cm x 123 cm.
