Essex. 7 maps of parts of the coast, showing: (1) the River Blackwater and its environs; (2) Foulness Island, Burnham-on-Crouch and their environs; (3) the area around Mersea Island, Colchester and Saint Osyth; (4) the estuary of the River Blackwater; (5) the estuary of the River Crouch; (6) Mersea Island and its environs; (7) the area between Foulness Island and Saint Osyth, and as far inland and Colchester and Maldon, including all of the areas covered by items (1-6). All seven sheets show soundings and proposed locations for defensive [martello] towers. Scale: 2 inches to 1 mile. Dimensions: (1) 49.5 cm x 80.5 cm; (2) 47.5 cm x 60.5 cm; (3) 51 cm x 40 cm; (4) 49.5 cm x 40.5 cm; (5) 46 cm x 37 cm; (6) 24.5 cm x 39.5 cm; (7) 115 cm x 102 cm. Originally accompanying a report by Major Bryce, October 1805; the report is not filed on this roll.
