2 maps comprising sheets of the Ordnance Survey one-inch Old Series England and Wales. (2) 7 joined sheets: numbers [I NW, I NE, I SW, I SE, II, III and VI], together comprising the area between Broxbourne in Hertfordshire, the mouth of the River Blackwater in Essex, Dover in Kent, and East Grinstead in Sussex. (1) 4 joined sheets: numbers: [I SE, III, VI] and part of sheet [II], together forming an irregularly-shaped map covering the area between East Grinstead and Dover in the south, and territory as far north as Rayleigh, Essex. Piano-key border. Scale: 1 inch to 1 mile. Engraved by Benjamin Baker and assistants; writing by Ebenezer Bourne; sheets III and VI published at the Tower [of London] under the superintendence of Colonel Mudge, 1 January 1819; [revised, with railways and martello towers added, to various dates between c1840 and c1857; sheet VI printed from an electrotype]. Coloured MS additions to both items, show fortifications at Canterbury, Chatham, Dover, Gravesend, the Isle of Grain, Sheerness and Tilbury; those to item (1) also shading the Rivers Medway and Swale in blue. Dimensions: (1) 94 cm x 182 cm; (2) 120.5 cm x 185.5 cm.
