South-East England. 6 sheets of the Ordnance Survey one-inch Old Series England and Wales joined: sheets [VI, VIII] and parts of sheets [I, II, III] and VII; the combined map covering the area between Hambleden (Buckinghamshire), Foulness Sands (Essex), Stanford (Kent) and Woolmer Forest (Hampshire). Piano-key border. Scale: 1 inch to 1 mile. Sheets VI and VIII engraved by Benjamin Baker and assistants; the writing by Ebenezer Bourne. Published under the superintendence of Colonel Mudge, Tower of London: sheet VIII on 1 May 1816 and sheets III and VI on 1 January 1819; [?revised after c1840]. Other details of survey and publication are not visible, due to the trimming and joining of the sheets. Coloured MS additions highlight major rivers, and show [naval and military establishments] at Aldershot and Ash, Chatham and Upnor, Gravesend, and Tilbury. Endorsed in MS: 'Kent and Surrey from Canterbury to Aldershot 1855'.
