Channel Islands: Alderney. 4 maps: (1) covering the whole island showing [existing] forts and batteries, and currents and soundings; (2) covering the whole island showing roads, settlements and proposed additional defences; (3) showing proposed defences along the coast from Gros Nez Fort to Tres Veaux Bay; a large portion of this map is missing; (4) showing existing and proposed defences in the Harbour of Refuge. Reference tables to items (2-4). Scale: (1) 1 inch to about 1,000 yards [1:36,000]; (2) 1 inch to 800 feet [1:9,600]; (3-4) 1 inch to 200 feet [1:2,400]. Compass indicator to each item. Each item signed by 2nd Corporal Charles Libby, Royal Sappers and Miners; and by Captain William Drummond Jervois, Royal Engineers. Dimensions: (1) 39.5 cm x 52 cm; (2) 53 cm x 80 cm; (3) 76 cm x 137 cm; (4) 100.5 cm x 27 cm. Originally accompanying a memorandum concerning additional defences for Alderney, 1 May 1854; the memorandum is not preserved on this roll.
