Description

Devon and Cornwall. Map, on two sheets, of Plymouth and its environs, as far as Tavistock in the north, Saint Germans in the west and the mouth of the River Erme; showing field boundaries and hachures; areas north of Bere Alston lack hachures and are much less highly coloured. Item (1) covers areas west of Plymouth and item (2) east of Plymouth. Scale: 6 inches to 1 mile. Pencilled additions to item (1), showing a breakwater in Plymouth Sound and the route taken by ships entering and leaving the Hamoaze. Both sheets endorsed with the name of [William] Gardner; [the survey was made by Gardner on the orders of the Duke of Richmond]. Dimensions: (1) 279.5 cm x 145.5 cm; (2) 279.5 cm x 126 cm.
