Before their transfer to this roll, these items were part of a War Office in-letter book of correspondence from the Colonial Office. They relate to joint Naval and Military Commission Reports from Colonel W C E Holloway, Royal Engineers, and Captain Edward Boxer, Royal Navy, to the Commander of the Forces: (3-8, 27) 17 February 1845, (9, 35) 31 May 1845; (11-16, 18-34, 36) 29 January 1846. Items (3-9, 27, 25) were forwarded in a letter dated 25 August 1845; items (11-16, 18-34, 36) were forwarded in a letter dated 11 April 1846. Items (1-2, 10, 17) are cover sheets.
Several of these items are marked with two or more numbers; the item numbers used here are those found on the dorse in the format 'WO 1/556 [number]'. Item 4 follows item 37
